Friday, the energy was palpable as advocates, activists, and community leaders from across the state gathered for an inspiring reproductive justice convening. Organized by one of our fantastic funding partners, this event was a powerful mix of passion, strategy, and community building that left Bee and I feeling energized and ready to continue the fight for Texans reproductive rights.

The convening included a series of dynamic panels, where speakers from diverse organizing backgrounds shared their expertise and experiences. From grassroots organizers to policy experts, each panelist brought a unique perspective to the conversation. Topics ranged from dismantling systemic barriers to preventive and postpartum care to centering the voices of the marginalized in our policies. For me, the highlight of the convening was a vibrant discussion on the intersectionality of reproductive justice—recognizing how race, gender, economic status, and ability intersect to shape access and outcomes.

Between panels, we engaged in meaningful networking and community building. The space hummed with conversations as we shared ideas and formed new partnerships. It was a fantastic reminder that we are stronger together and building a movement is just as much about relationships as it is about policy.

Speaking of policy, a critical element for everyone and especially of our concern at Texas Impact was the conversation around developing bold new strategies to advance reproductive justice. We heard from experts at our partner organizations who gave a great comprehensive breakdown of what we might face in the upcoming legislative session. From advocating for comprehensive sex education to re-establishing and ensuring access to abortion care, the strategies that emerged from our time together were focused on making an impact with creative solutions to the most pressing issues in Texas today. Along with our partners we will continue to work on shaping these strategies over the next few months as we prepare for the legislative session.

The heart of the convening was the conversations, both those that we had with our partners, and those that were shared by our wonderful speakers. This was a testament to the power of storytelling in activism. It reminded us all that the reproductive justice movement is, at its core, about people – about ensuring everyone has the freedom to make decisions about their bodies, lives, and futures without fear or limitation.

As we ended our time together, there was a sense of momentum in the room. We left with new partnership, strengthened relationships, fresh ideas, and an unshakable determination to continue pushing for change in Texas.
