
In 2025, Congress made changes to SNAP. They put new financial burdens on state budgets and made it harder for our neighbors to get the food they need. More than 500,000 Texans have lost SNAP coverage in the past year. Most of these are children, disabled, and elderly.
When the Texas Legislature convenes, lawmakers will have to appropriate a projected $2 billion in new state funding for SNAP to maintain the program in Texas. Given the many competing demands they will face, it’s crucial they hear early and often that SNAP is vital.
