Last week on September 22, the Biden administration announced the first ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, unifying the administration’s efforts to address gun violence. The office will be headed by Vice President Kamala Harris with “Stefanie Feldman, a long time policy advisor to President Biden on gun violence prevention, [as] Director of the Office of Gun Violence Prevention.” The team will include gun violence prevention advocates Greg Jackson from Community Justice Action Fund and Rob Wilcox from Everytown for Gun Safety as Deputy Directors.

The move is historic and is the result of the efforts of the advocacy community. Both Everytown for Gun Safety and Community Justice Action Fund worked in Texas this past legislative session in concert with Texas Impact and our partners in the Texas Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence led by Texas Gun Sense

President Biden commented on the announcement, “That’s why I’m announcing additional steps forward, with the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, overseen by Vice President Harris, to build upon these measures and keep Americans safe. The Office will include Stefanie Feldman, who has capably led my Administration’s gun violence prevention efforts and been a trusted aide for more than a decade, alongside leading experts Greg Jackson and Rob Wilcox whose own lives and families have been touched by the tragedy of gun violence. They have turned their pain into purpose and dedicated their careers to being advocates for change – that important work will continue as they join my team in these new roles.”

We are beyond excited to see the White House prioritize this issue and to include the advocacy community in such significant ways as we move forward to address the gun violence epidemic in America.
