I am the Executive Director of Alabama Interfaith Power and Light and a licensed and ordained United Church of Christ Minister. I am the Senior Pastor of Rush Memorial Congregational UCC in Atlanta, GA. I am also the Founder of Martha’s Corner, Inc. and The People’s Justice Council, and serve as the Environmental Justice Representative for the Southeast Conference of the United Church of Christ. I am currently the co-chair of the Building Power from the Grassroots Task Force with Climate Action Network International, and the co-chair of the Environmental Justice working group for the Southeast Climate and Energy Network.

I am an impassioned faith leader who sees climate change as a moral emergency, and environmental justice as the remedy. I believe that the only way we achieve this is through building power from the grassroots up. The People’s Justice Council does this through education and advocacy from a faith-based perspective.

As a person of faith, I am called to care for God’s creation. As a leader in a community of faith, I am also called to instill this same outlook to those that I serve. Creation is all things created by God. Caring for creation means ensuring that perpetual life is permanent. This means ensuring that all life given creation is to be maintained, sustained, and cultivated. Environmental injustice is antithetical to the call of God. Therefore, I am called to speak truth in power by telling society that we are outside the will of God. Further, I am moved by God to tear down the systems that obstruct and oppress.

I am interfaith and interdisciplinary in my approach when organizing and advocating for justice. It is my passion to shape the narrative around Environmental Justice and Climate Change in a way that calls all our attention to a sense of urgency so that the people become environmentally conscious.

I believe there is an unparalleled opportunity for faith communities in Alabama to unite and raise their voice against environmental injustice and climate change. I’d welcome any opportunity to connect with you so that we can speak further on how we can serve your community.
