Sarah Cruz is aPolicy Specialist with Texas Impact. She first joined the team as a Policy Intern during her first year of graduate school in the summer of 2019. She joined Texas Impact full-time in the summer of 2020 and has been following immigration and climate policy. Sarah has a bachelor’s in political science from Texas A&M University and a master’s in global policy studies from the University of Texas at Austin, Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs. Sarah previously worked with the U.S. House of Representatives in Texas District 15 and with a non-profit organization in the Rio Grande Valley focused on diabetes prevention. She currently lives in the Rio Grande Valley and enjoys spending time with her two dogs and baking.

Sarah Cruz is the current Policy Specialist with Texas Impact. She first joined the team as a Policy Intern during her first year of graduate school in the summer of 2019. She joined Texas Impact full-time in the summer of 2020. Since joining the team full-time, Sarah has been following and reporting on immigration and climate policy. As the Policy Specialist, she is also involved with other coalitions such as the Texas Border Collaboration Network, the RGV No Border Wall group, and the Texas Immigration Organizers. She will be assisting in the re-launch of the Courts and Ports program in the spring of 2021. 

 

Prior to working with Texas Impact, Sarah worked with the U.S. House of Representatives in Texas District 15 and as part of the backbone for a collective impact project Rio Grande Valley. During her time working in a congressional office, Sarah worked in constituent services completing casework. As part of the collective impact project, Sarah assisted the team in advancing their mission to reduce the prevalence of Type II diabetes in the RGV by working with other local non-profits and helping launch community-wide diabetes prevention programs. 

 

Sarah has a bachelor’s in political science from Texas A&M University and a master’s in global policy studies from the University of Texas at Austin, Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs. During graduate school, Sarah helped conduct field research to evaluate immigrant integration for the City of Dallas. She also completed a data analysis project on documented crimes committed against asylum seekers in Mexico. Sarah is currently part of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition’s, Next Gen Leadership Program class of 2021, focusing on global development and diplomacy. 

 

Sarah currently lives in the Rio Grande Valley with her two dogs. In her spare time, she loves to work-out, try new baking recipes, and is working on becoming a Tetris master.
