The Senate Health and Human Services Committee has approved HB12 , which would provide a full year of postpartum coverage under Medicaid. Yay!
But we aren’t over the finish line yet, and there is a worrisome development: the bill author considered offering a committee substitute before the vote which included language limiting the coverage to pregnancies that end in live birth or involuntary miscarriage—so, not pregnancies that end because of an abortion. This language would prevent the federal government from allowing Texas to implement the coverage for anyone.
Please contact all Senators to ask them to vote out the House version as passed by Senate HHS 7-0. Any floor amendments will risk federal approval, meaning no one will get postpartum coverage.
