- In this section of Leviticus, the teaching of God to Moses instructs God’s people that when someone commits a crime or sin against another person, they should not only restore what was taken in full but add one fifth to it. They should also bring an offering to God to restore their standing with God. Does this teaching apply only to people or also to the crimes committed against the earth?
- This teaching stands on the perpetrator being found guilty. If we apply this teaching to the crimes we have committed against the earth, causing climate change, can we be or have we already been found guilty? How might the report by the IPCC on 1.5 degrees play into this?
- What does restoration of the earth look like?
- If we are applying this teaching to the issue of climate change, is the earth the only victim? Who are the creatures who are victims of this crime and how might we work towards restoration for them?
