Overview of This Year’s Event

Legislative Event 2022 focuses on providing Texas women concrete information and strategies to advocate for UMW’s national priorities: climate justice and racial justice. A major theme will be elections and voting, including innovative ways for faith communities to provide nonpartisan election leadership.

Saturday: This day provides foundational information about civic engagement; the legislative process; and strategies for faith communities to engage in public witness while respecting boundaries and honoring their beliefs and traditions. All Saturday sessions will be in-person and streamed live, with recordings available after the event. No meals are provided on Saturday; instead, in-person attendees are encouraged to explore Austin’s restaurant scene

Sunday: This day features important policy briefings with issue experts, as well as theological grounding through morning worship. All sessions will be in-person and streamed live, with recordings available after the event. The evening meal will include a keynote presentation, and attendees are encouraged to bring guests.

Monday: The morning includes more key policy briefings, with some information repeated from Saturday. The afternoon includes two sets of workshops, group discussion, and legislative visit preparation. Morning sessions will be in-person and streamed live, with recordings available after the event. Monday afternoon’s content will be presented in-person, with some workshops and legislative visit training presented separately via livestream. Monday evening’s keynote will be in person and streamed live, with a recording available after the event.

Tuesday: Tuesday’s content will be presented in person only. Attendees will arrive at the Capitol at 8:30AM for legislative visits. Visits will conclude with a short sending forth ceremony, after which attendees have the option to participate in a “behind the scenes” tour of the Capitol.
