A short, interfaith service of readings and reflections to set our intentions for the legislative session

We invite you to join us on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 for a short interfaith service of prayer and reflection to honor the opening of the 88th Texas legislative session.

On the first day of every regular session of the Texas Legislature since 1973, Texas Impact has held an interfaith service of public witness on the South Steps of the Texas Capitol. This year’s service will mark the start of Texas Impact’s 50th anniversary year, and we are especially eager to have legislators of diverse faiths participate in the service of public witness.

At a time when our body politic is fraught with division and discord, public prayer and intention-setting offer us an opportunity to affirm our deeply held, widely shared values and hopes for our communities.

The service is designed to last about 30 minutes. Representatives from a variety of faith traditions and areas of Texas take turns offering readings, prayers, and brief (1-2 minute) meditations/reflections that illuminate religious teachings that are relevant to the work of public policy.
