BEYOND BARRIERS:
Faithful Action for Migrant Justice
ABOUT “BEYOND BARRIERS”
Beyond Barriers: Faithful Action for Migrant Justice is a four-to-six-week curriculum designed to equip individuals and faith communities with the knowledge, compassion, and tools to advocate for migrant justice. Rooted in the values of dignity, equity, and faith, this curriculum explores the complexities of immigration policy, the lived experiences of migrants, and the role of faithful action in breaking down barriers—physical, emotional, and systemic. Some of the greatest barriers are our own emotional barriers to doing the important work of advocacy. The curriculum offers opportunities to explore these emotional barriers and overcome them together, helping even those who are hesitant to find confidence in their advocacy.
By combining education, reflection, and action, participants will engage with issues at the intersection of policy, community safety, and compassion, empowering them to create meaningful change in Texas and beyond. Justice and hospitality are core to our shared humanity, and through understanding and advocacy, we can help shape a world that welcomes and uplifts all.
CURRICULUM LAYOUT
The Beyond Barriers: Faithful Action for Migrant Justice curriculum is thoughtfully structured to allow for a great amount of flexibility, guiding participants through a journey of learning, reflection, and action. It begins with an optional Week 0 session, providing foundational context and establishing group norms. Weeks 1 through 4 focus on understanding immigration systems, exploring the challenges faced by immigrant communities, and equipping participants with advocacy skills. The final two weeks, Weeks 5 and 6, are designed as hands-on action opportunities and reflection where participants implement and plan to continue the knowledge gained through community-based projects or advocacy efforts. These weeks can be combined into a single day-long event or tailored to suit the community’s schedule. Each session includes discussion prompts, handouts, practical tools, and opportunities for spiritual reflection, ensuring a balance between education, compassion, and empowerment.
