This week, we’re celebrating some great communication on the issue of reducing gun violence: at a meeting on March 4, Mission Presbytery adopted a resolution calling on legislators to adopt commonsense measures to reduce gun violence in Texas. Mission Presbytery covers a large, diverse swath of the state, from Del Rio, into the Hill Country as far north as Adamsville, southeast to Collegeport, south to Brownsville and places in between, including Austin, San Antonio, Victoria, and Corpus Christi. Here’s Bobby’s post about the resolution, which passed overwhelmingly on a vote of 207-1.
The resolution is just one example of the great work being done by Texas Impact members working together in action teams. Across issue areas and around the state, team members are mobilizing legislative visits; generating calls; and gearing up for committee testimony. If you’re ready to dig in on an issue, visit our Action Center to join a team.
Speaking of legislative testimony, bill hearings are underway and there will be opportunities to provide legislative testimony over the next several weeks. If you’ve never testified before, or even if you need a refresher on the process, take a few minutes to watch our video “Betsy Goes to Austin,” which follows our beloved Texas Impact board member Betsy Singleton as she prepares to testify.
Not sure what you have to say to a committee? This video is a great example of sharing stories from your own experience helps to illuminate systemic issues.
Public testimony is just one way to impact the legislative process. Be sure to sign up for Texas Impact’s weekly action alerts for quick, doable phone calls you can make to help move good bills (and slow down the ones that may not be so great.)
