“The world is a fine place and worth the fighting for…and you had a lot of luck, he told himself, to have had such a good life.”
― Ernest Hemingway, For Whom the Bell Tolls
Texas Impact has been talking about stories. This week’s Weekly Witness episode includes a conversation with our long-time colleague and friend Luke Metzger of Environment Texas, who shares some stories of hope and optimism for the future of our state and our planet. The episode also features some thoughts about the importance of the stories we tell ourselves and each other from renowned climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe.
At our weekly Texas Impact staff meeting, we spend a portion of our agenda talking about what each staff member is reading. This week we’ve all been reading this Atlantic article on the impact of social media on democracy, but we’re also reading books—some work related, others less so. Here are some suggestions if you’re looking for reading material:
Bobby recommends this article in New York Magazine: “How Russia Learned to Deny Reality”
Heather recommends The Black Friend: How to Be a Better White Person
Isa is enjoying A Canticle for Leibowitz
Bee loved Behind the Scenes at the Museum and assures you it has nothing to do with museums, theater, or policy!
Sid is working through Prophetic Preaching: A Pastoral Approach
