We currently have a complex immigration system of laws and policies at our border that function to ensnare people seeking safety into a further labyrinth of confusion and suffering. While there are also built in regulations and procedures to safeguard the human rights of people seeking safety within the system, there is no room for a person seeking refuge to commit an error because doing so can lead to the worst possible outcome, including the loss of life.

Not all is hopeless. There are still people that work tirelessly –within the system and outside of the system– to provide basic necessities such as food, water, adequate shelter and welcome to those subjected to our immigration machinery. If you join a Courts & Ports program you will be blessed to meet some of those people.

Texas Impact’s Courts & Ports program exists to immerse people of faith with an opportunity to better comprehend the reality of our immigration system through learning, discerning, and bearing witness. We accomplish this through visiting non-profit immigration shelters on both sides of the border, visiting a detention center and hearing directly from enforcers of our federal immigration laws, we shadow non-detained immigration court proceedings and learn from direct legal providers, and take the time to reflect.

Courts & Ports participants will leave with a big picture perspective of the realities of this system at our borderlands. Participants can return to their communities and feel equipped to leverage their personal Court & Ports experiences through advocacy of their choosing. To further equip participants we invite them to join our Immigration Action Team.

What is the truth about our border policies and immigration in our country? I challenge you to join a Courts & Ports program so that you can answer this question for yourself.
