ISSUE CHAMPIONS GROUPS

Issue-based groups meet regularly with Texas Impact staff and our coalition partners, and help mobilize their networks around opportunities and threats on their issues. Working with Texas Impact staff and coalition partners, team members will meet with lawmakers at the Capitol and in-district on a regular basis, and host events to showcase mainstream support for their issue. Team members who have limited capacity for in-person advocacy will be encouraged to make calls, write letters, and engage on social media. Texas Impact staff will will host weekly Zoom meetups for each issue team during the legislative session.

ENDING GUN VIOLENCE

This team will support legislation that would intervene constructively to reduce gun violence, as well as “playing defense” against erosion of gun violence prevention measures.

LGBTQ+ RIGHTS

Mainstream Texas faith communities say that discrimination on the basis of sexuality or gender identity doesn’t belong in our state…and we need to say it louder than ever in the 2023 Texas legislative session. Legislators need to understand that their constituents don’t want extreme legislation or hate-filled rhetoric. Will you commit to working consistently with fellow Texans of faith to make sure lawmakers get the message?
