Monday, September 21, is Texas Impact’s suggested deadline for mailing an application for a mail-in ballot through the US Postal Service. The official deadline listed on the Secretary of State’s website is October 23…so what’s the rush? We’ve got some good reasons.
Mailing your application on September 21 should ensure that your application is received before county election officials begin mailing out ballots—so you should be in the first cohort of voters to receive a mail-in ballot. This will allow you to complete and return your ballot in plenty of time for it to be counted well before Election Day.
If you can’t get your application for a mail-in ballot in the mail by September 21, you definitely can still mail it, but you could also consider hand-delivering it to your county election official’s office. Just bear in mind that every day you delay mailing (or hand-delivering) your application, means the less time you will have to complete and return your ballot.
