During the 89th legislative session, Texas Impact members made more than 700 Capitol office visits and more than 16,000 calls to legislative offices!

Elections
Free, fair elections, including the right of every citizen to cast a ballot that is duly counted, form the bedrock of American democracy. Voting rights are referred to as “the right preservative of all others,” since only through voting can the people of a community peaceably remove leaders who seek to oppress them. The world’s faith traditions collectively affirm voting as a responsibility both civic and spiritual: through voting, we express our preferences for the circumstances our neighbors will live in.

Action Teams
Texas Impact’s action teams are the backbone of our year-round advocacy. Hundreds of team members attend weekly Zoom meetings with Texas Impact policy staff, where they stay up-to-date on policy developments and help develop Texas Impact’s legislative strategies.
Public School Defenders
Ready to defend public education in Texas? Join our team of committed advocates and take effective action to oppose vouchers, unlicensed “chaplains,” and other threats to our education system.
Reproductive Policy
This team focuses on resisting threats to reproductive health, as well as promoting policies to address current reproductive injustice. The team meets on Mondays at 5PM on Zoom. Join us!
Climate Action
Join the Climate Action Team for weekly discussions and action opportunities on climate and energy topics in the state of Texas. We meet weekly at 10:00 AM, Fridays, on Zoom.
Gun Violence Prevention
This team supports legislation that would intervene constructively to reduce gun violence, as well as “playing defense” against erosion of gun violence prevention measures. The team meets weekly on Zoom.
Immigration
Work with Texas Impact staff and immigration advocates around the state to advance fair immigration policies in Texas and the U.S. This team meets every other Tuesday at 3:00 pm CST, and we will send out both email reminders and notes from each meeting.
Health and Food Access

Texas Faith Votes
COMING SOON
Texas Impact is launching a new statewide advocacy initiative focused on elections and voting. Beginning in early September, this team will meet weekly via Zoom (meeting day and time to be determined) to delve deeply into election policy and legislation during the 90th Texas Legislative Session and beyond.
LGBTQ+
Mainstream Texas faith communities say that discrimination on the basis of sexuality or gender identity doesn’t belong in our state…and we need to say it louder than ever . Legislators need to understand that their constituents don’t want extreme legislation or hate-filled rhetoric. Will you commit to working consistently with fellow Texans of faith to make sure lawmakers get the message?

Use Your Voice
Visit or call policymakers
If you’re like most people, the prospect of visiting a lawmaker’s office about an issue or a bill sounds like as much fun as public speaking or getting your teeth cleaned…but there’s no need to be nervous! Meeting in person with legislators and their staffs is a crucial part of citizen leadership, so it’s worth taking the time to do some advance preparation.
Write a letter
Letters to the editor are great public policy advocacy tools! They help to shape public opinion, and they inform legislators about constituent concerns. Letters are also a great way to highlight your issue in your faith community.
Educate your community
Public policy issues are often highly complex. They involve detailed factual information and thorough understanding of varied perspectives. An issue forum provides a way to learn about difficult issues in a safe environment.
