Dear {name},
This week, Texas Impact had the honor—and big fun—of holding our customary Interfaith Celebration of Public Witness on the first day of the legislative session. This year’s event featured faith leaders from the Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Baha’i, Hindu, Jain, Buddhist, Zoroastrian, Sikh, and Unitarian Universalist traditions, and Republican and Democrat legislators from El Paso, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, and Austin. We especially thank our legislative partners Rep. Donna Howard of Austin and Rep. Salman Bhojani of Dallas for recruiting and encouraging robust legislative and faith leader participation.
Participants offered prayers for the work of the legislature—and for the communities they serve. They reflected on the call to love our neighbors, to lead with humility, to honor our common humanity and shared responsibility.
You can watch the entire event on Texas Impact’s YouTube channel. You can watch clips of each participant, view photos from the event, and read many of the prayers and reflections that were offered on our website.
After being sworn in and selecting a House Speaker, legislators have adjourned until January 22, to allow members to attend the presidential inauguration. Texas Impact will be in the office preparing for the United Women in Faith Texas Legislative Event, which starts at 1PM on January 26. If you have not registered for Legislative Event, there is still time to do so for in-person and virtual attendees.

At the Interfaith Celebration, a reporter asked me how I was feeling at the start of the legislative session. I said I’m excited: I love working with our top-notch staff and with you, our amazing Texas Impact network. There are so many great legislators and advocates engaged at the Capitol, and while there are plenty of challenges, there are real opportunities to make positive policy changes that help Texas families and communities flourish. Let’s step out in faith!
