Youth and You: Local Opportunities for Juvenile Justice Ministry In Texas
Senate Bill 653, passed in 2011 merged the Texas Youth Commission (TYC) and the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission (TJPC) into a single agency. The expanded scope of the newly established and unified Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) includes working in partnership with local county governments, the courts, and communities to promote public safety and to create a system that produces positive outcomes for youth, families, and communities.
These reforms create a unique opportunity for local communities to become involved in supporting young people in the juvenile justice system and their families.
