CHIP Buy-in Program Passes House after 12-Month Children's Medicaid Coverage is Removed

Rep. Coleman's children's health bill (HB 2962) passed through the House today with an 87-55 vote.

HB 2962 is similar to SB 841 by Sen. Averitt, which Texas Impact has supported this session. It creates a monthly premium-based CHIP program for families making 200 to 300% of the federal poverty level (FPL) and allows families at 300- 400% FPL who have lost funding to buy into the program.

12 month eligibility in Children's Medicaid, as presented by Representative Turner, was amended to the bill on second reading but was removed from the bill by amendment upon third reading.

HB 2962 will now move to the Senate.  Texas Impact will continue to keep you updated on the status of this bill.
