Comment Deadline: Licensing Detention Facilities as Child Care Providers

Executive Director

On Wednesday, December 9, 2015, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services held a public hearing regarding proposed Rule 40 that would allow the private detention centers in Karnes City and Dilley, Texas to be state-licensed child care providers. Rather than meet existing standards followed by child care providers, the rule would create a unique category for the detention centers, effectually allowing a different standard of care for immigrant children seeking asylum. More than 40 citizens testified against such licensing, and of those, many were members of Texas’ faith community.

Today is the last day to submit public comments in writing.
