Stop the Coal Rush 2008: February 27-28 in Houston
The U. S. response to climate change is being determined RIGHT NOW, every time a state agency approves another coal plant.
In 2007, Texas faith communities joined with health professionals, property owners, environmental protection groups and others to call for a "time out" on new coal-fired power plant permitting in Texas. The "Stop the Coal Rush" campaign stopped a lot of coal plants and gave Texas lawmakers the breathing room to give our state clean power solutions like more renewable energy and energy efficiency.
But the coal debate isn't over: across the nation, power companies are proposing more than 100 new coal-fired power plants, including here in Texas.
Building even a fraction of these plants would add so much new CO2 to the atmosphere that reducing total U.S. emissions during the next decade would become virtually impossible.
This week, join Texas Impact and other groups in Houston at COAL MORATORIUM NOW , a 2-day conference featuring presentations by experts and activists from across the nation about what a massive buildup of new coal-fired power plants will mean to the U.S. and the world.
Conference:
Wednesday, February 27th 2pm to 9pm
and Thursday February 28th 10:00am to 3:00pm at
Bering Memorial United Methodist Church
1440 Harold Street, Houston, TX 77006
(In the Montrose area near Downtown Houston)
